What is a remap?
Remapping is the process of adjusting various parameters within an engine control unit, usually to increase performance or economy.

What is chipping? Is it better than remapping?
Commonly ‘chipping’ is the term used for removing and replacing the memory chip from the engines ECU and replacing it with another pre-programmed chip.  Usually with a one map suits all – chipping cannot accommodate custom requirements and individual modifications.  Remapping is the modern method replacing chipping – enabling us not to disturb the ECU, and to adjust many more parameters.

Is a remap the same as tuning boxes?
Tuning boxes are readily available and can generally be DIY fitted. Unfortunately they do not allow adjustment or customisation of as many parameters as a professional remap. Often this results in poor power and economy benefits.

[TOP]

How will the remap affect my warranty?
Some tuners claim that nobody can detect a remap – no one can say a remap is 100% undetectable.  Main dealer diagnostic equipment will not detect the remap – unless you tell them.

[TOP]

How will the remap affect my fuel economy?
Driving style and your requirements of the remap will dictate the fuel economy effects.  If you choose an outright performance remap and use this power 100% of the time then of course your economy will reduce.
In practice most of our customers enjoy an increase in fuel economy – the additional power over a more useable rpm range allows for smoother driving and  better economy.

Will the remap reduce the life of my engine?
Much like fuel economy this is very dependant on driving style.  If you drive your car hard without any mechanical consideration it will reduce its life – whether remapped or not.  Our remaps always remain within the manufacturer’s safe tolerances and limits. Performance tuning of any vehicle increases the amount of energy output, regular servicing and maintenance are extremely important to ensure longevity.

[TOP]

Can it be reversed?
Our remaps are completely reversible leaving no evidence of being remapped.  If for some reason you require the standard map be returned to your vehicle we charge £50 for this service, of course this is free within your 14 day money back guarantee period.

[TOP]

What warranty is provided?
Since we do not actually install any components on your vehicle there is very little to provide warranty upon.  If for some unlikely reason there are problems with your vehicle we will do our utmost to assist and resolve any issues – including returning your vehicle to standard for any testing.

What about my insurance?
This is entirely up to you, we can only recommend its best to inform your insurance company.

Will I lose the remap if I disconnect my battery?

The remap is stored within the ECU in non-volatile memory – not reliant on power.  If you battery is disconnected or the vehicle is stored for long periods the remap will not be lost.

What if I sell my vehicle?

If you decide to sell your vehicle the map can be reversed for £50, or simply left on the vehicle for the new owner.

[TOP]

Your figures are higher than a competitor, why?

Our development process is continuous, it's therefore only natural that our quoted figures may be higher than our competitors. We test extensively to ensure our operating parameters are with safe manufaturer tolerances. Quoted artificially high figures is pointless - especially as we dyno test each vehicle!

[TOP]

Why should I choose SWICT over a competitor?

Chip tuning and remap vendors have greatly increased recently, mostly due to the availability of poor quality software and programming tools. This means many competitors don't always fully understand the process.

We suggest always going for an established company and preferably one that tests your vehicle extensively before and after they carry out any changes.

Clearly we are biased, if you choose us or a competitor please remember you get exactly what you pay for, a cheap deal on a remap, is exactly that - cheap.
